How Many 2008 1st Round MLB Draft Picks Haven't Reached the Majors

This coming season will mark ten years after the 2008 MLB Draft. Let's go back to look and see how many of the players taken in the first round never actually made it to the show. While the 2008 Draft includes big names like Eric Hosmer and Buster Posey, there are a few players that didn't quite pan out:

22. Reese Havens, SS (New York Mets) - Havens' injury-plagued career saw him reach AAA and earn a spot on the Mets 40-Man Roster, but he never appeared in a major league game. In 345 minor league appearances, Havens hit .252. He was a mid-season All-Star with St. Lucie of the Florida State League in 2009, and an MILB.com organization All-Star for the Mets in 2011 after hitting .288 between A-Ball and AA in 61 games.

24. Anthony Hewitt, SS (Philadelphia Phillies) - Hewitt played in the minors for seven seasons, but only two of them were above A ball. After hitting .140 for AA Reading in 2014, he played just one more season and only appeared in 13 games in 2015. In 608 minor league games, Hewitt hit .223. He hit a career-high 16 homers in 2013, and he was a mid-season All-Star in 2011 in the South Atlantic League.

27. Carlos Gutierrez, RHP (Minnesota Twins) - Gutierrez spent six seasons in the minors, making it as a far as AAA, but didn't play after 2013. In 142 minor league appearances, Gutierrez posted an ERA of 4.00 and had a record of 15-20. He was a 2009 Mid-Season All-Star with Fort Myers of the Florida State League and he pitched for Puerto Rico during the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
