The 2017 FIFA Club World Cup

With their 2-1 win over Al-Jazira (UAE), Real Madrid has advanced to the finals of the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup where they'll take on Grêmio (Brazil). Grêmio defeated Pachuca (Mexico) 1-0 in the other semifinal in extra time. Real Madrid is in position to win their third Club World Cup Title in the past four years and would be the fifth straight European side to win the tournament. The last non-European side to win the FIFA Club World Cup was Corinthians, also from Brazil, when they defeated Chelsea 1-0 in the Final back in 2012.

For whatever reason, Mexico's squads have consistently struggled in the FIFA Club World Cup with just two third place finishes in the first 13 iterations off the tournament, the last coming in 2012 when Monterrey defeated Al Ahly (Egypt) in the consolation game. Here's a look at Mexico's past performances in the tournament:

*The 2000 Tournament consisted of two groups playing round robin with group winners playing for the championship, and group runner's up playing for third place.

The 2017 Club World Cup Final will be held on Saturday the 16th in Abu Dhabi.
