Star Wars Baseball Roster

So, being a huge Star Wars fan, I naturally was extremely interested when MLB.com Cut4 assembled a baseball roster out of Star Wars characters. HOWEVER, I immediately rejected this roster when they threw Jar-Jar Binks in as a platoon first baseman alongside Chewbacca. Jar-Jar? Seriously? That guy should at best be the mascot. Anyhow, here's my Star Wars 25 Man-roster complete with coaching staff, because I'm a huge Star Wars/Baseball nerd.

Starting Rotation: Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Lando Calrissian.

*Your starters are your aces, the big names who command big dollars. By themselves they can carry a team, so the biggest names in the Star Wars galaxy should headline any Star Wars rotation. The top 4 are no-brainers, Lando's a bit fringy so he's your number five. Cut4 Picks: Obi-Wan Kenobi & Jamie Moyer.

Catcher: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

*The grizzled veteran is a calming influence and will undoubtedly work well with any pitching staff. Cut4 Pick: R2-D2.

First Base: Chewbacca.

*The dude is eight feet tall, he'll save the infield a lot of throwing errors with his reach. Cut4 Pick: Chewbacca/Jar-Jar Binks

Second Base: Rey.

Not a ton of size, but extremely agile/athletic. She'll be a natural turning double plays. Cut4 Pick: Poe Dameron

Shortstop: Yoda.

Frank Oz does the voice of Yoda. Ozzie Smith's nickname was the Wizard of Oz. Yoda's my shortstop. Yoda's quick feet and hands will make him a surefire gold glover. Nothing's getting through on the left side of the infield. Cut4 Pick: Han Solo.

Third Base: Mace Windu

You want someone with tremendous reflexes manning the hot corner, and who better to do that than a Jedi Master? Cut4 Pick: Wedge Antilles

Left Field: Boba Fett

I'm sure the guy with the rocket pack can cover the gaps pretty well. Cut4 Pick: Rey.

Center Field: Kylo Ren

You know Ren can cover a ton of ground, and his commanding presence make him a natural captain in the outfield. Cut4 Pick: Finn.

Right Field: Captain Phasma

Good size, undoubtedly a strong throwing arm, Phasma is your ideal corner outfielder. Cut4 Pick: Boba Fett

Designated Hitter: Emperor Palpatine

At this stage in his career, he's pretty much a one-trick pony. Doesn't play defense, doesn't run well, but if you end up in his wheelhouse, he'll definitely hurt you. Cut4 Pick: Darth Vader.

Bench, Back-Up Catcher: Baze Malbus

Don't run on this guy, he's got a cannon.

Bench, Utility Player: Cassian Andor

Assassin, thief, saboteur, this guy does it all for the good of the team. He's your Zobrist. Cut4 Pick: Kylo Ren.

Bench, Utility Player: Jyn Erso

Consummate team player, her fire and versatility make her a leader in the clubhouse.

Bench, Utility Player: BB-8

Runs well, and it's always good to have speed on the bench when you need to steal a base late in the game.

Left-Handed Reliever: Chirrut Imwe

Strictly a match-up reliever given his vision issues, but he's extremely good at what he does.

Set-Up Man: Wedge Antilles

Adept at handling clutch situations, survived a pair of Death Star attacks, and even helped bring down the second, so arguably could close if need be. Probably your 8th inning guy.

Long Reliever: Snoke

Shrouded in mystery, you feel like he could step in for a starter and get you some innings if someone were to get chased early. Doesn't throw hard, but his breaking stuff has serious bite to it.

Set-Up Man: General Hux

Volatile stuff, the young General has the ego and ambition to succeed in the late innings.

Middle Reliever: Finn

Isn't quite ready for high leverage situations, but he's an intriguing prospect that deserves a spot on the big league roster. Cut4 Pick: Luke Skywalker.

Middle Reliever: Nien Nunb

A solid pilot capable of filling multiple roles, he's a guy who can give you multiple innings if needed.

Closer: Poe Dameron

He's the best pilot in the Resistance, and has been entrusted with helping find the map to Luke Skywalker and taking down Starkiller Base. He went toe-to-toe with Kylo Ren so he obviously doesn't shy away from pressure and isn't easily intimidated. If you need one guy to come in and get three outs, Poe's your guy. Cut4 Pick: Lando.

First Base Coach: R2-D2

Great at stealing signals from the opposition, can help baserunners get a good jump off of first base.

Third Base Coach: C-3PO

Highly adept at waving his arms frantically.

Bench Coach: Qui-Gon Jinn

A great mentor to the younger players, Jinn has a lot of credibility in the locker room. Cut4 Pick: Jyn Erso.

Manager: Admiral Ackbar

An exceptional tactician, Ackbar's got the savvy to steal a win from a superior opponent by making good strategic moves. Cut4 Pick: Yoda.

General Manager: Mon Mothma

Mothma has shown an incredible ability to build a winning team despite a limited budget. Her ability to bring in good clubhouse-guys as well as under-valued talent has made her a winner.

Owner: Jabba the Hutt
